01 — The Problem

The truth most trainers
don't want to admit.

You were never actually taught how to work with clients in pain. So when one shows up with a nagging shoulder, a bad back, or a blown-out knee, you do one of three things — and none of them work.

  • AYou avoid those clients — and lose the highest-margin segment of the market.
  • BYou guess at modifications — and the client either gets hurt, plateaus, or stops showing up.
  • CYou modify randomly and hope it works — which feels safe but doesn't build trust or results.

Meanwhile, the biggest opportunity in fitness — adults 40+ with pain, limitations, and real problems to solve — gets handed to someone else.

02 — The Opportunity

The highest-value clients
aren't the 22-year-olds
who just want abs.

They're the 40, 50, 60+ year olds with knee pain, back pain, shoulder issues, and a long history of failed programs. They stay longer. They pay more. They refer more. But only if you can actually help them.

A

Stay longer.

Members 40+ who feel safe, capable, and pain-free become 5-, 10-, even 15-year clients. The retention math is the entire business.

B

Pay more.

Specialists get paid like specialists. Once you're the trainer who handles pain, limitations, and complex cases — you stop competing on price.

C

Refer more.

A 55-year-old who finally feels strong and pain-free is the highest-quality referral source in fitness. Their entire peer group is the same audience.

03 — The Program

Introducing the
Pain-Free Fitness
Coach (PFC).

This isn't another generic certification filled with theory. It's the exact system we run across a multi-location, multiple-7-figure training business — translated for trainers who want to do the same.

Seven body-area modules. A consistent, deep structure inside every one. A cumulative final that earns you the credential.

The seven modules

Every body area you'll see every week on the gym floor.

MODULE 01

The shoulder.

Rotator cuff, impingement, AC joint, post-op. The most common — and most-mishandled — joint on the gym floor.

MODULE 02

The ankle.

Post-sprain instability, achilles, plantar fasciitis, post-op. The base of the chain — fix this and everything upstream changes.

MODULE 03

The hip.

Impingement, labrum, post-replacement, hip-flexor pain. The hub of every lower-body movement — handle it wrong and the whole chain breaks down.

MODULE 04

The knee.

Meniscus, ACL, patellar tracking, post-replacement. What scales, what doesn't, and how to progress without flare-ups.

MODULE 05

The lower back.

Disc issues, spondy, SI dysfunction, post-fusion. How to load the spine safely when load is exactly what it needs.

MODULE 06

The wrist & elbow.

Tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, wrist post-op, repetitive-strain. Quietly limits more clients than you'd guess — and easy to handle once you know how.

MODULE 07

The neck & thoracic spine.

Cervical pain, headache referral, post-disc, t-spine mobility, posture-driven dysfunction. The most under-trained region in fitness — and the highest-leverage when you handle it right.

Inside every module

A complete, repeatable
learning structure. Every time.

No matter which body area you're studying, you move through the same six-part learning loop — designed to take you from baseline knowledge to confident on-the-floor application.

STEP 01

Pre-test.

A baseline knowledge check before you start. Honest mirror — so you can see exactly what the module teaches you, and how far you've come at the end.

STEP 02

Informational PDF + cheat sheet.

The reference document you'll keep open while you watch the videos. Anatomy, key terms, the structure of what's coming, plus a note-taking cheat sheet you'll fill in as you go.

STEP 03

Deep-dive video series with Dr. Dougherty.

2–4 videos per module. Anatomy walk-through, common aches and pains, post-surgical considerations, what to include in programming, what to avoid, and the do's and don'ts that separate guessing from knowing.

STEP 04

Rehab cheat sheet.

A short list of universally safe, universally effective exercises you can use with any client in that body-area category — regardless of the specific diagnosis. Day-one usable on the gym floor.

STEP 05

Real-trainer demonstration videos.

Full coaching demos with our team — exactly how to set up, cue, and progress every corrective. You see the words, the hand placements, the calibrations. Not theory — coaching.

STEP 06

Post-test.

Lock in what you learned. Move on when you're ready. The structure compounds — by the time you finish module seven, you've internalized a complete framework for the human body on the gym floor.

The Final + Your Certificate

Pass the cumulative
final. Earn the PFC.

After all seven modules, you'll sit a cumulative final exam covering everything you've learned — anatomy, conditions, do's and don'ts, programming, coaching, and corrective demos.

Pass it, and you receive your Pain-Free Fitness Coach certificate — the credential you can submit to NASM for 1.8 CEUs toward your personal trainer recertification, and the designation you can use with your own clients.

04 — The Founder

Built by a doctor.
Proven on the floor.

Dr. John Dougherty got his personal training certification at 19, earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from George Washington University in 2014, and his Board Certification in Orthopedics — a distinction held by fewer than 6% of physical therapists in the country.

In January 2019, he opened Conquer Fitness in Frisco. Seven years later, six DFW studios, 700+ five-star reviews, and a goal to reach 100 locations nationwide. The PFC system is everything he's learned in clinic and gym, packaged for the trainers who want to do this work seriously.

08 — Questions

Frequently asked.

Is this approved for NASM CEUs?
Yes — completing the PFC program earns you 1.8 NASM CEUs, which count toward your personal trainer recertification. CEU paperwork is delivered automatically on completion.
How long does it take to complete?
Most trainers finish in 2–4 weeks at a comfortable pace. Self-paced — go faster if you want, slower if life gets in the way. Lifetime access either way.
Do I need a background in physical therapy?
No. The program is built specifically for personal trainers, fitness coaches, and gym staff who want to confidently work with clients in pain. We translate the clinical knowledge into language and tools that work on a gym floor.
What's actually inside each module?
Six components, in this order: a pre-test to baseline what you know, an informational PDF with a note-taking cheat sheet, a deep-dive video series with Dr. Dougherty (2–4 videos covering anatomy, common conditions, post-surgical considerations, and the do's and don'ts), a rehab cheat sheet of universally safe exercises you can use day one, real-trainer demonstration videos for every corrective, and a post-test to lock in what you learned.
How do I earn the certificate?
Complete all seven modules and pass the cumulative final exam. Your Pain-Free Fitness Coach certificate is then issued — submit it to NASM for 1.8 CEUs toward your personal trainer recertification, and use the PFC designation with your own clients.
I'm a gym owner — can I enroll multiple staff members?
Yes — and we offer bulk discounts when you enroll your team. The PFC system is the foundation Conquer uses to train its own staff and serve adults 40+. For gym owners, this is a way to upgrade every coach on your roster, get them speaking the same clinical language, and reposition your gym in your market.
